Is Play in the Throttle Grip Really Necessary?

With conventional cable-operated throttles, play is necessary and should not be eliminated, as the cable's path lengthens when the handlebars are turned. If the cable is adjusted too short, this can lead to unintentional acceleration when turning the handlebars.

With modern Ride By Wire systems, which have now become standard, this problem no longer exists. The position of the throttle grip is detected by a sensor in the throttle grip itself, and the signal is electronically transmitted to the control unit. Here, there is no cable that unintentionally opens the throttle valve when the handlebars are turned.

In short: If your motorcycle is equipped with a Ride By Wire system, no play in the throttle grip is needed.
